Drive-Thru Dispute Leads to Gunfire at Popeyes in Chicago

A seemingly simple request turned into a dangerous situation at a Popeyes restaurant in South Shore, Chicago. Tramain Beeks, a 21-year-old drive-thru worker, is facing serious charges after allegedly firing a shot at a customer’s car over a payment disagreement.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on August 5 at the Popeyes located at 7430 South Stony Island Avenue. Beeks was working the drive-thru when a group of four customers placed an order and requested to pay separately. However, Beeks had already rung up the purchase on a single ticket, leading to a heated argument at the window.

Despite the disagreement, Beeks handed over the food to the customers. As they were leaving the drive-thru, Beeks allegedly stepped outside, brandished a handgun, and fired a shot at their vehicle. Fortunately, the bullet missed, and no injuries were reported. The customers immediately contacted the police.

Law enforcement officers responded to the scene, recovered a spent shell casing, and obtained surveillance footage from the restaurant. Two Popeyes employees identified Beeks, and two of the customers positively identified him in a photo lineup. Subsequently, Beeks was arrested by Chicago police and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle.

During a court hearing, Judge James Costello granted the state’s detention petition, ordering Beeks to be detained as the legal proceedings move forward.

It is essential to remember the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and avoiding escalating situations to violence. Acts of aggression, especially involving firearms, can have severe consequences and put lives at risk.
