DISCONTINUING TAXPAYER SUPPORT FOR PARTISAN MEDIA:

Today, President Donald J. Trump enacted an Executive Order that terminates taxpayer funding for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

  • NPR and PBS collectively receive substantial financial support from taxpayers each year, primarily facilitated through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
  • This Order halts federal financial assistance to NPR and PBS to the fullest extent permissible under the law.
  • Additionally, it prohibits local public radio and television stations, as well as any other recipients of CPB funding, from utilizing taxpayer money to benefit these organizations.
  • The Order requires the CPB to revise its General Provisions for 2025 to explicitly forbid any direct or indirect financial support to NPR and PBS.
  • All federal agencies are directed to cease any direct or indirect funding to NPR and PBS, alongside a review of existing grants and contracts to ensure compliance.
  • Furthermore, the Order mandates the FCC and relevant agencies to investigate potential unlawful discrimination by NPR and PBS.

UNCOVERING PARTISANSHIP IN PUBLIC BROADCASTING:

According to President Trump, NPR and PBS have been conduits for partisanship and left-leaning narratives funded by taxpayer dollars, a practice he deems inappropriate and an improper allocation of public funds.

  • Unlike the media landscape of 1967, when the CPB was established, today’s information ecosystem is rich with diverse and innovative news sources, rendering government funding of media not just outdated but potentially detrimental to journalistic objectivity.
  • Despite the CPB’s legal obligation to remain “nonpolitical” and refrain from supporting any political party, both NPR and PBS have been accused of providing substantial in-kind support to the Democratic Party and its causes.
  • Internal findings from NPR revealed that registered Democrats overwhelmingly outnumbered Republicans in the newsroom’s editorial roles by an astounding 87 to zero.
  • NPR’s President and CEO has publicly noted that she considers “truth” to be a potentially harmful “distraction” from the organization’s goals.
  • In a striking example of editorial influence, NPR management instructed its editors to avoid the term “biological sex” in discussions about transgender issues.
  • NPR has produced stories that defended looting and suggested that concerns about crime are rooted in racism, while also declaring its diversity, equity, and inclusion practices as “inseparable” from its content.
  • The organization notably ignored the Hunter Biden laptop story, branding it a distraction, despite its relevance to the presidential election.
  • NPR consistently rejected the lab-leak theory concerning COVID-19, despite it later being considered likely by the FBI, CIA, and Department of Energy.
  • In a peculiar segment, NPR featured “queer animals” for Valentine’s Day, proposing that fictional characters like the clownfish from “Finding Nemo” would fare better as females.
  • Research indicates that PBS’s flagship news program has provided 85% negative coverage of congressional Republicans, contrasting with 54% positive coverage of congressional Democrats.
  • During a six-month period, PBS News Hour employed variations of the term “far-right” 162 times, while “far-left” appeared only 6 times.
  • A PBS station featured drag queen Lil Miss Hot Mess in a program aimed at children ages 3-8.
  • PBS produced a documentary called “Real Boy,” celebrating the transition of a transgender teen.
  • The PBS show Sesame Street collaborated with CNN for a town hall intended to present a singular narrative to children regarding “racism” amidst the Black Lives Matter protests.
  • PBS’s coverage of the 2024 Republican National Convention was 72% negative, while its coverage of the 2024 Democratic National Convention was a striking 88% positive.
  • No media outlet is entitled to taxpayer-funded operations, and it is inappropriate for taxpayers to be compelled to support biased, partisan content.

PROTECTING TAXPAYER FUNDS:

President Trump is committed to ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not squandered on progressive initiatives but instead utilized for the benefit of hardworking Americans.

  • The establishment of the “Department of Government Efficiency” by President Trump aims to streamline federal operations, eliminate superfluous programs, and reduce bureaucratic wastefulness.
  • Under his administration, a 10-to-1 deregulation initiative was launched, ensuring that every new regulation is supported by clear and demonstrable benefits.
  • President Trump also put an end to DEI discrimination in the federal workforce, as well as in federal contracting and expenditure.
  • The Trump Administration is vigorously investigating Biden-era programs that mismanaged billions of taxpayer dollars on inefficient, politically motivated endeavors, including the cancellation of unnecessary government contracts and grants that lack national interest.
