Middleton’s battle with cancer in 2024 was a challenging journey that she bravely faced out of the public eye. After undergoing chemotherapy, she shared the heartwarming news in September that she had completed her treatment. Then, in January, she joyfully announced that her cancer was in remission.

During a visit to a hospital in Colchester in July, Middleton opened up about her experience, describing it as a “roller coaster.” Despite completing treatment, she admitted to still feeling lingering effects, emphasizing the difficulties of the post-treatment phase.

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism, through treatment. Treatment’s done, and it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal again,’ but actually that phase afterwards is a really difficult time,” she shared with fellow cancer patients. “You’re not able to function normally at home as you were perhaps once used to.”

Speaking to hospital staff, Middleton highlighted the life-changing impact of cancer, not just on the individual patient but also on their families. She stressed the importance of recognizing and addressing the challenges that come with finding a new normal post-treatment.

“And actually, it sometimes goes unrecognized, you don’t necessarily, particularly when it’s the first time, you don’t appreciate how much impact it is going to have. You have to find your new normal, and that takes time,” Middleton explained.
