A new book will delve into the childhood, family dynamics, and rise to global fame of one of the world’s most renowned women, while Harry, 41, is reportedly planning a documentary on Diana to mark the 30th anniversary of her passing next year.
A source in publishing remarked, “There is a lot of excitement surrounding Charles’ book, and the timing is crucial.
“Harry intends to revisit Diana’s extraordinary life for the 30th anniversary of her passing next year, and Charles is aware this will draw significant global attention. He has chosen this moment to share his memories in his own words, essentially to present his version of Diana’s life before Harry narrates it from a son’s perspective. In essence, he is preempting Harry.”
Spencer mentioned that his decision to write was influenced by a flood of interview requests as the anniversary neared.
He stated, “With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic passing approaching next year, I’ve received numerous interview requests about my sister. This persuaded me to document my own thoughts and memories once and for all, rather than experiencing the discomfort of reading others’ opinions, many of which are based on falsehoods that have gained acceptance over time.”
Spencer’s Swan Song book aspires to “convey the truth about Diana from her brother’s viewpoint, much like I aimed to do during her funeral.”
He emphasized, “As with my eulogy, I wish to speak on Diana’s behalf in an openly positive manner.”
Another source noted that Spencer and Harry’s projects would provide notably different portrayals of Diana.
“Harry knew Diana as his mother, whereas Charles knew her before the palatial life, photographers, and global fame,” the insider clarified. “Charles can narrate the story of the girl he grew up with and the familial experiences that shaped her. With Harry preparing to honor Diana through his documentary, Charles’ book ensures his version reaches the public first.”
During Diana’s funeral in 1997, Spencer made an emotional promise regarding her sons, Prince William, now 44, and Harry.
He delivered a heartfelt speech at the funeral, referring to his sister’s “blood family” and vowed to care for her sons William and Harry.
As billions of royal fans worldwide watched the farewell on TV, Spencer pledged, “I promise that we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative way in which you were guiding these two exceptional young men so that their souls are not merely submerged in duty and tradition but can sing openly as you intended.”
Diana was laid to rest on an island at the Spencer Estate, Althorp, in Northamptonshire.
Regarding his upcoming book, Spencer commented, “I hope this book will resonate with those who continue to cherish Diana’s memory when she was alive, and I would be thrilled if those too young to remember her in her prime feel—after reading this—that they understand who she truly was.”
