The Intermedia and Digital Arts (IMDA) MFA program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is now accepting applications from interdisciplinary artists looking to push the boundaries of their practice. This three-year, 60-credit graduate program offers private studios in Baltimore’s vibrant art community, where students can work alongside nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are active artists, filmmakers, designers, and scholars.

IMDA provides a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes one-on-one feedback from visiting artists, teaching opportunities, access to professional exhibition venues, and state-of-the-art fabrication, media, and physical computing labs. UMBC, a top-ranked R1 research university, fosters an inclusive culture that encourages collaboration and provides students with access to research centers and diverse interdisciplinary opportunities.

Graduate assistantships are available and include full tuition remission, health insurance, stipends, and other financial support based on merit. In 2026, applicants are eligible for a special Dean’s award, which offers full funding and summer fellowship opportunities.

The IMDA program supports a wide range of creative practices, including socially-engaged, interactive, and studio-based artworks created using both cutting-edge and traditional methods and technologies. Alumni of the program have gone on to showcase their work at prestigious venues worldwide, receive grants and residency awards, and become academic leaders at renowned art institutions.

The program also features a stellar lineup of visiting artists, including Janine Antoni, Zoe Beloff, Lynda Berry, Paul Chan, and many more. These artists provide valuable insights and inspiration to IMDA students, enriching their educational experience.

If you’re interested in learning more about the IMDA program, you can register for the upcoming online info session on November 21st from 3-4pm EST. Applications for the program are due on February 1, 2026.
