Colorado Ski Resorts Prepare for Presidents Day Weekend

As the Presidents Day weekend approaches, Colorado ski resorts are seeing slight increases in their below-average base depths. However, more significant snowstorms are on the horizon for next week.

Thursday brought one to three inches of snow to most resorts, with Steamboat receiving a generous eight inches. Meteorologist Joel Gratz from OpenSnow predicts another round of snowfall, with four to eight inches expected in the southern mountains, three to six in the central mountains, and two to eight in the northern ranges on Friday.

Weather forecasts for the Presidents Day weekend show warm and dry conditions in the mountains, with high temperatures ranging from the mid to upper 30s. This should provide comfortable skiing and good travel conditions for visitors.

Despite the recent snowfall, twelve Colorado ski areas still have base depths below 50% of normal, while eight more are under 60%. However, a promising storm system is set to arrive on Tuesday and last through Thursday, bringing potentially six to 12 inches of snow to many mountains.

Looking ahead, Gratz anticipates more snowfall next weekend and in the final days of the month. Ski enthusiasts can stay updated on outdoor news by subscribing to The Adventurist weekly newsletter.
