For the second consecutive night, Russian forces launched extensive strikes targeting military sites in Kiev, Kharkiv, and various other Ukrainian cities. This escalation is widely perceived as a counteraction to Ukrainian assaults on civilian trains in Bryansk and Kursk, alongside a drone attack on Russian military airfields.

The Russian military Telegram channel Military Chronicle has proposed a compelling theory suggesting that these retaliatory actions may evolve into a prolonged sequence of missile and drone assaults over the coming days.
“The missile strike executed on the night of June 5-6, 2025, appears not to be an isolated incident but rather the initiation of a series of attacks. The structure of the assault, the extent of the damage inflicted, and the selection of targets imply a shift to an extended phase of bombardment. If this pattern persists, additional strikes can be anticipated on critical infrastructures, such as the Kiev Hydroelectric Power Station and various energy facilities previously spared,” the report noted.
“The methodology of the strikes is expected to remain consistent: combined waves of Geranium drones, along with medium- and long-range missiles, will likely be deployed, utilizing previous damage assessments for reconnaissance. The primary change will be in the operational tempo; whereas Ukrainian air defenses previously managed isolated attacks, they are now unlikely to cope with sustained, high-volume assaults, particularly given the depletion of crucial equipment like the Patriot air defense system.”

In the midst of this turmoil, former US President Donald J. Trump weighed in on the ongoing attacks, suggesting that Ukraine’s provocations warranted such responses from Russia.
“They gave Putin a reason to go in and bomb the hell out of them last night. That’s something I didn’t like about it when I saw it. I said, here we go now.”
