While Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have garnered attention for their outreach in Republican strongholds, they’re not alone. Senator Chris Murphy and Congressman Maxwell Frost are also taking to the streets, engaging directly with constituents in traditionally conservative territories.
This week, Senator Murphy’s office revealed that the duo is gearing up for a series of town halls:
Senator Chris Murphy and Congressman Maxwell Frost are once again taking their message on the road to counter what they describe as the billionaire-led takeover of governance by Donald Trump and Elon Musk. On Thursday, they will partner with the North Carolina Democratic Party for a town hall in Alamance County, aiming to shed light on the Republicans’ perilous agenda—specifically, their threats to health care and food assistance, as well as their attempts to disenfranchise voters in North Carolina.
Recently, North Carolina Republican Richard Hudson, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, made headlines for advising House Republicans to steer clear of their constituents. This came in the wake of a budget resolution that jeopardizes Americans’ health care in favor of tax cuts for the wealthy. If Congressman Hudson is unwilling to engage with the people of North Carolina’s 9th District, Murphy and Frost are stepping in to fill that void.
