Sen. Kelly stated:
Even after a federal judge declared earlier this year that his attempts to silence me were unconstitutional, he persisted. Today, this administration argued in federal court that I do not have the same freedom of speech rights as other Americans. They claim that millions of other retired veterans across the country, including many standing beside me today, don’t have these rights either.
According to them, if a retired veteran says something the Secretary of Defense dislikes, they can face punishment. This implies that those who have served this country would not have the freedom to express their beliefs. It’s absurd and an outrageous violation of our constitutional rights.
One of our most fundamental rights is to speak out about the government. This right guarantees all others and is a way to hold our government accountable, especially crucial now as Donald Trump is two months into a war with Iran that he initiated without a strategic goal.
Mark Kelly’s statements, which defended liberty and the Constitution, sparked a reaction from MAGA supporters.
