Serial Rapist Charged with Kidnapping and Assaulting Woman After Escaping Prison Time

A serial rapist, Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, 28, has been charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman over several days in a hotel room. This disturbing incident comes just months after Mohamed was let off with no prison time for two other attacks, including the rape of a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint. The shocking plea deal that allowed Mohamed to escape prison time was granted in May in Hennepin County, Minnesota, according to court documents.

Initially arrested in September for strangling and raping a woman he met on Snapchat, Mohamed’s DNA was later linked to an earlier violent attack on a teenage girl at gunpoint. Despite these heinous crimes, Mohamed served no prison time after accepting a plea deal in May that stayed his prison sentences.

However, Mohamed’s criminal behavior did not end there. He is now accused of holding a woman captive in a Bloomington hotel and repeatedly assaulting her in September, just four months after his previous plea deal. According to court documents, Mohamed met the woman on Snapchat, confiscated her phone, and threatened her, saying, “You’re not going home.”

He then transported her to a hotel in Bloomington where he allegedly raped her multiple times over several days. The victim managed to escape by jumping out of his car and seeking help from others.

Public outrage erupted following Mohamed’s arrest, with prominent figures like Elon Musk emphasizing the necessity of imprisoning repeat violent criminals to protect innocent individuals.

Mohamed’s criminal history dates back to May of the previous year when he was arrested for raping a woman in his Minneapolis apartment. The victim reported that Mohamed strangled her and threatened her with a gun to coerce her into having sex. Subsequent DNA evidence linked him to the 2017 rape of a teenager who was forced to perform sexual acts at gunpoint.

Despite being sentenced to three years in prison for the assault on the 15-year-old, Mohamed avoided incarceration as the sentence was stayed for five years. He was also sentenced to probation and time in the Hennepin County workhouse with credit for time served.

In another sexual assault case in 2024, Mohamed was sentenced to 14 months in prison, but once again, the sentence was stayed, allowing him to escape imprisonment. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office defended the sentencing, citing challenges in prosecuting criminal sexual conduct cases.

Currently held without bail on the latest rape charge, Mohamed is scheduled to appear in court on December 31st. The disturbing pattern of Mohamed’s criminal behavior and the leniency of the justice system in dealing with him raise serious concerns about public safety and the protection of victims.
