A registered sex offender has been remanded in custody awaiting trial after he was reportedly discovered viewing child pornography on a tablet at a public library in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood, as per recent court documents.

David Rideout, aged 50, was apprehended around 6 PM on September 15, following a 911 call from a concerned citizen who reported that a man was watching explicit material involving minors within the Bucktown-Wicker Park Branch located at 1701 North Milwaukee Avenue.

Upon arrival, police officers found Rideout seated with a black tablet that reportedly featured a screensaver image of a “completely naked underage female” posed in a graphic sexual manner, according to the police report from the Chicago Police Department (CPD). Additionally, a library staff member informed investigators that surveillance footage confirmed Rideout was holding the tablet while viewing images of naked underage girls, as outlined in the report.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by a group of five residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who grew frustrated with the misinformation prevalent at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our area of coverage has since expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other neighborhoods on the North Side. Nevertheless, our mission remains constant: to deliver original public safety reporting enriched with context and more substantial details than what is typically provided by mainstream media outlets.
