A sex offender caused chaos in Nashville on Thursday when he fled from authorities and sought refuge in Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital West, prompting a lockdown of the medical facility.
The Nashville Police and Williamson County deputies were in pursuit of the suspect when he made a run for it and entered the hospital to hide, as reported by WSMV.
The lockdown was put into effect as law enforcement officers scoured the hospital for the fugitive. However, after an extensive search, the authorities were unable to locate the sex offender inside the premises.
Fortunately, the lockdown was lifted after it was confirmed that the suspect was no longer within the hospital grounds. The situation was resolved without any harm coming to staff or patients.
Metro police deployed tactical officers to conduct a thorough search of each floor in an attempt to apprehend the suspect, but he managed to evade capture.
In a statement, the hospital assured the public that the individual in question was no longer on the premises and that everyone was safe and unharmed.
Authorities emphasized that the sex offender’s actions were a violation of the law by seeking refuge in a medical facility. The suspect’s identity has not been disclosed to the public, and the case remains under investigation as both Nashville and Williamson police continue their search efforts.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in tracking down individuals who attempt to evade capture, and the importance of cooperation between different agencies to ensure public safety.
