Shaboozey was not in agreement with a claim about country music’s origins Sunday night. Fans were quick to notice his confusion when Megan Moroney stated at the 2025 AMAs that the Carter Family were the ones behind country music.
The duo was presenting the Favorite Country Duo or Group award at the 2025 AMAs when Megan mentioned that the award once went to the folk music group who “basically invented country music.”
Shaboozey’s reaction to Megan’s claim was evident as he gave a sharp side-eye and an awkward chuckle before continuing with the nominees. The moment was made more awkward by Megan’s serious demeanor throughout.
It seems like there might have been some confusion as Shaboozey possibly mixed up the Carter Family with BeyoncĂ©‘s crew. The internet also seems equally puzzled by the mix-up.
For clarification, the Carter Family were folk music pioneers from the late 1920s to ’40s whose songs and style had significant country music influences. The confusion is understandable given their historical significance in the music industry.
