Chicago Police Investigate Two Armed Robberies in West Loop Area
Chicago police are currently looking into two separate armed robbery incidents that occurred late Sunday night and early Monday morning in and around the West Loop neighborhood.
The first robbery took place at approximately 9:55 p.m. on Sunday in the 1600 block of West Lake Street. A 22-year-old man reported that he was standing on the sidewalk when six individuals in two vehicles approached him. One of the robbers brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s belongings, including his phone, while another assailant physically assaulted him. The victim, who sustained a punch to the face, declined medical attention at the scene.
The suspects in the first robbery are described as Black males who fled the scene in a black sedan, possibly a Kia, along with another unidentified vehicle. Area Three Detectives are currently leading the investigation into this incident.
Several hours later, at around 1:35 a.m. on Monday, a 27-year-old man was targeted by armed robbers near his residence in the 100 block of North Morgan Street. The victim reported that two men exited a silver or gray Jeep and attempted to forcefully take his belongings while armed with a firearm. Fortunately, the victim was able to seek refuge inside his residential building before the robbers could steal anything, causing them to flee empty-handed.
The suspects in the second robbery are also described as Black males, with one wearing a black jacket and gray pants, and the other dressed entirely in black. They were last seen fleeing west on Randolph Street from Morgan Street. Area Three Detectives are actively investigating this incident as well.
At this time, police have not confirmed whether the two robberies are connected in any way.
