Vincent Pastore, known for playing Salvatore Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos, has passed away at 80.
According to a report from Deadline, Pastore was discovered deceased in his Bronx home on Saturday by a neighbor after being out of contact for three days.
The details surrounding his passing are being investigated.
Born on July 14, 1946, in New York City, Pastore was raised in New Rochelle in an Italian American family.
Before his acting career, Pastore served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era and later obtained a drama degree from Pace University.
Pastore became known for his roles as tough guys and mobsters. His early work included minor roles in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas and Brian De Palma’s Carlito’s Way.
In the mid-1990s, Pastore took on more significant roles in The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the HBO film Gotti, where he acted alongside future Sopranos castmates.
His standout role was as “Big Pussy,” a close friend and associate of Tony Soprano who turns into an FBI informant.
Pastore’s performance on The Sopranos contributed to the cast receiving a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series.
He was previously married to Nancy Berke and leaves behind their daughter, Renee.
