The highly acclaimed creator, director, and writer of “Squid Game,” Hwang Dong-hyuk, recently participated in a panel discussion alongside production designer Chae Kyoung-sun, editor Nam Na-yeong, director of photography Kim Ji-yong, and the cast members of “Squid Game 2” including Lee Jung-jae, Kang Ae-shim, Park Sung-hoon, Lee Byung-hun, and Choi Seung-hyun as part of Netflix’s FYSEE LA series.

Hwang Dong-hyuk shed light on the thought process behind selecting seemingly innocent schoolyard games that would serve as deadly challenges in the second season of the show. He explained that he wanted to explore the theme of elections and the concept of majority rule in democratic societies. Hwang questioned whether democracy truly leads us down the right path and if it enables us to choose the right leaders.

One of the cast members, Park Sung-hoon, who portrayed Cho Hyun-ju, a special forces agent who faces discrimination after coming out as a transgender woman, expressed gratitude for the support he received from fans. Sung-hoon highlighted the importance of representing the LGBTQ+ community on screen and the progress being made in society, despite lingering prejudices and biases.

Choi Seung-hyun, known as a rapper and former member of the K-pop group BIGBANG, shared his experience of portraying the character Thanos in “Squid Game 2.” He revealed that he found similarities between himself and the character, leading to self-reflection on his past mistakes and personal growth. Seung-hyun credited Director Hwang for entrusting him with the role and helping him navigate this transformative experience.

Following the FYC event, the “Squid Game” stars graced the red carpet, where Lee Jung-jae expressed his desire to see acclaimed actor Leonardo DiCaprio make an appearance on the show. The cast members continue to receive accolades for their performances and the gripping narrative of the series.
