Swin Cash is all-in on the WNBA coming back to Detroit, expressing her excitement for the city and its deserving fans, despite any naysayers.
During the Taylor vs. Serrano fight, Cash shared her thoughts on the WNBA’s decision to bring a professional women’s basketball team back to Motor City, where she previously played from 2002 to 2007.
After the Shock’s relocation to Tulsa in 2009 and subsequent move to Dallas in 2016, the return to Detroit holds significant sentimental value for Cash.
“Ay, Detroit! What up, though! I am so happy to see the WNBA back in Detroit after winning two championships there,” Cash said. “They keep a special place in my heart.”
“I cannot wait to see how that city receives their new team!”
Despite Cash’s enthusiasm, there have been criticisms, with Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham initially expressing negative views about playing in Detroit.
“I think Detroit spoke,” Cash responded. “That’s what Detroit’s gonna do. They’re gonna let you know they are a sports town, and the history is rich there.”

Nancy Lieberman, a former player and coach for the Shock, defended Detroit, stating that Cunningham misunderstood the city’s sports culture and loyal fanbase.
Cunningham, known for her support of Caitlin Clark, has since clarified her remarks, and Cash appears to acknowledge the clarification.
