Taylor Swift has just released her latest album, and fans are dissecting it thoroughly … convinced that one particular track is a subliminal diss.
Everyone’s buzzing about “The Showgirl’s Journey” which premiered last night … featuring a song titled “Actually Romantic” that fans believe is aimed at Charli XCX.
Check this out … the lyrics include, “I heard you refer to me as ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s made you brave. Greeted my ex and then you said you’re relieved he left me.”
Swifties are sure it’s directed at Charli XCX … because in her 2024 track “Sympathy is a Knife” from her album “Brat,” fans speculated that she took jabs at TS in the lyrics … “George insists I’m just paranoid. I don’t want to see her backstage at my boyfriend’s gig. Fingers crossed behind my back. I hope they part ways soon.”
Charli addressed the speculation in an August interview with New York magazine, maintaining that ‘Sympathy’ was actually a reflection of her own insecurities. She stated, “People will think what they wish. That song speaks to my feelings and my anxieties, illustrating how my mind builds narratives when I feel insecure, and how I want to avoid those scenarios when I’m feeling self-doubt.”
The “George” mentioned refers to Charli’s now-husband, George Daniel — who happens to be the drummer for The 1975 — while Taylor’s ex Matty Healy is the lead vocalist. Additionally, fans have noted “Actually Romantic” is the 7th track on ‘Showgirl’, and Charli’s 7th track on “Brat” is “Everything is Romantic”… quite the coincidence.
This definitely looks like these two are collaborating on a lyrical face-off … in a manner of speaking.
