Her broad experience in supporting learners across various educational contexts fuels the practical, student-focused resources she develops for teachers.
We invited Myranda to discuss her thoughts and priorities when creating educational resources.
What are your key considerations when developing resources?
I always consider the needs of English language learners, even when the materials aren’t specifically for ESL. I ask myself if a student who is still building their academic vocabulary can engage with the content without language barriers hindering their learning.
I focus on scaffolding. Is there a visual aid, sentence frame, or a broken-down step that provides an entry point for every student, not just those who are already proficient readers? Engagement and relevance are also crucial, as students are more invested when the material relates to real-world contexts.
Ultimately, I aim for a struggling student, whether due to language, confidence, or understanding of the content, to find a foothold in the resources I’ve created.
What should teachers anticipate when using your resources?
Teachers can expect materials that are aligned with standards and tested in classrooms, not just theoretically sound but resources I have personally utilized or reviewed in real instructional settings.
They can also expect built-in accessibility. Support for English language learners is integrated into the resources from the start, rather than added later, ensuring the materials are effective for all students in the classroom.
Most importantly, teachers can rely on resources that are ready for immediate use with minimal additional preparation, recognizing the importance of their planning time.
