North Carolina Teacher Describes Alleged Attack by Homeless Man Before Dying

A tragic incident occurred in North Carolina where a teacher, Zoe Welsh, was allegedly attacked by a homeless man in her own home. Despite the horrifying assault, Welsh managed to describe the attack to a 911 dispatcher before tragically passing away.

According to investigators, Welsh’s final words to the dispatcher were, “He hit me with a brick,” recounting the brutal attack by career criminal Ryan Camacho, 36. Camacho reportedly forced his way into Welsh’s home in Raleigh, causing a terrifying home invasion that led to her death.

Welsh bravely informed the dispatcher that a man had broken in through the window and identified him as a homeless individual she had seen at Fred Fletcher Park in Raleigh. She described being struck with a brick and was found on the floor in her bedroom during the call.

Despite the dispatcher’s repeated attempts to check if Welsh was still on the line, there was no response from her.

Camacho, with a history of six arrests in the past four years, has been charged with murder and felony burglary in connection to Welsh’s death. He is set to appear in court on January 26 and has not yet entered a plea.

Camacho had previously been involved in criminal activities, including a 2016 incident where he damaged property and a 2019 case where he fired bullets into a woman’s home. Despite facing multiple charges, some were dropped as part of plea deals.

His criminal history also includes arrests for non-violent misdemeanors and violations that led to periods of imprisonment. In one instance, Camacho was sentenced to two years in prison with post-release supervision and probation after violating his terms.

The tragic loss of Zoe Welsh has shed light on the challenges of dealing with repeat offenders and the need for better monitoring and support systems to prevent such devastating incidents from occurring in the future.
