A Texas fugitive, known as Mike King among other aliases, who was working as a security guard for Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), was fatally shot in a standoff with a Dallas SWAT team on Wednesday night.
The suspect was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer and had been recruiting for his business that provided off-duty cops for side jobs, as reported by CBS News Texas.
King was tracked by the Dallas Police Department’s fugitive unit and barricaded himself inside a car in the parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas around 11:40 p.m., according to officials at a press conference on Thursday morning.
After being forced out of the car with tear gas, King pointed a gun at the police, who then shot at him.
The fugitive was hit by the gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. His real identity has not been disclosed by authorities.
King had been part of Crockett’s security team in both Washington, DC, and Texas, accompanying her to campaign events during her primary run for the Democratic Senate nomination, which she lost to James Talarico, according to CBS.
Video footage showed the Democratic candidate walking alongside her security guard, who was living a double life as a criminal pretending to be a cop.
