The ongoing political maneuvering among Democrats is taking a heavy toll on everyday Americans, particularly as air travel faces unprecedented disruptions. With crucial personnel such as air traffic controllers and TSA agents working without pay, this past weekend marked the “worst weekend” for air traffic staffing since the onset of the Democrat Shutdown, and the situation is poised to deteriorate further.
Democrats are presiding over a significant crisis that is upending the travel plans of millions:
- TSA checkpoint wait times have skyrocketed to three hours at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, with some travelers facing waits of up to five hours. Nearby, at William P. Hobby Airport, security lines frequently exceed one hour.
 - Nearly half of the busiest airports in the U.S. experienced critical staffing shortages over the weekend, leading to a domino effect of delays and cancellations impacting air travel nationwide. Since the start of the Democrat Shutdown, four times more staffing shortages have been reported at air traffic control facilities compared to last year.
 - Conditions are unlikely to improve until Democrats put an end to their unproductive shutdown. Travelers in the New York City area are advised to expect “schedule changes, gate holds, and missed connections,” while significant disruptions affect airports in Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Austin, Cleveland, Seattle, Boston, Indianapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., and numerous other locations.

It’s noteworthy that a wide range of travel professionals—from air traffic controllers to pilots and the largest U.S. airlines— are urgently appealing to Democrats to approve a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution to halt the chaos. Each week that the shutdown continues, $1 billion or more in travel-related revenue is lost, all while Democrats seem intent on exploiting this crisis in their misguided political strategy.
Ultimately, the Democrats have the power to turn off the chaos; their inaction perpetuates the turmoil.
