A well-known bakery in Houston was burglarized for the third time, just a day after its owner began chemotherapy for colon cancer.
According to KHOU11 reports, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, three individuals broke into The Bearded Baker in Houston Heights.
Owner Allan Hursig was alerted by his alarm system about the intrusion.
“I saw three guys rummaging around,” Hursig recounted to the outlet.
Surveillance footage shared by Hursig shows the suspects kneeing, kicking, and pushing through the front window before forcing open a sliding door and ransacking the establishment.
Though the intruders seemed to be seeking cash, Hursig noted that the stolen items were of little value.
The damage to the window cost more than the stolen items, which included a speaker and a jar of peanut butter.
“It’s heartbreaking, but compared to other issues in the world, this is an easier one to handle right now,” Hursig remarked.
Yet, Hursig’s primary concern remains his fight against cancer.
Last month, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, which has now spread to his liver.
Despite these setbacks, Hursig remains optimistic about the future.
“I’m hopeful, I’m optimistic. I caught it early and I’m young in comparison to most cancer patients,” he told KHOU11.
He finds strength in the unwavering support from loved ones.
“My family went down there almost immediately … to check on things to get the window patched up,” Hursig said. “What I’m actually fighting toward is getting back to the things I love to make people happy.”
Hursig expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Houston community.
And despite everything, he maintains his sense of humor.
On the bakery’s Instagram page, Hursig posted: “Well … To add to our 2026 bingo card … We Just had 3 stooges break into the shop last night. We will be open for business as usual but please ignore the mess! And If you know anything or recognize any of these guys. Please reach out!”
The Houston Police Department is investigating the break-in and encourages anyone with information to come forward.
