In a move that raises eyebrows and ethical questions alike, Donald Trump is reportedly set to accept a lavish Boeing 747 from Qatar, which he intends to use as his version of Air Force One during his presidency. The aircraft is slated to become his personal asset, ultimately being transferred to the Trump presidential library foundation. To sidestep taxation, the plane will not be directly assigned to the library but will instead fall under the umbrella of the foundation.

The Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution explicitly prohibits such actions: “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.” This constitutional barrier makes Trump’s intentions not just questionable but illegal.

In response, the Trump administration, guided by Attorney General Pam Bondi, has concocted justifications that resemble a web of legalese designed to obscure the reality of what appears to be a bribe. The mainstream media has largely failed to confront this blatant instance of corruption head-on.

For instance, the New York Times recently tweeted:

Breaking News: President Trump plans to accept a luxury Boeing 747 from Qatar that he will use as Air Force One and will keep using after he leaves office. The plan raises substantial ethical issues.

However, we have moved beyond mere ethical concerns in this scenario.

ABC News highlighted the story, framing it as follows: “The highly unusual — unprecedented — arrangement is sure to raise questions about whether it is legal for the Trump administration, and ultimately, the Trump presidential library foundation, to accept such a valuable gift from a foreign power.”

While the terms “unusual” and “unprecedented” may be accurate, the absence of the word “corrupt” in this discourse is troubling. Labeling the jet as a “gift” diminishes the severity of the situation. This is not simply a generous donation; it is, without a doubt, a bribe. Qatar’s motivation for gifting such a luxury aircraft is not rooted in goodwill; they expect tangible returns.

Should the Democrats regain control of the House in the upcoming elections, they now have a compelling issue to investigate. Even if impeachment proceedings seem improbable, the call for such investigations into a president seemingly accepting bribes will likely echo through the halls of Congress, regardless of the reticence displayed by major media outlets in addressing it head-on.
