President Trump welcomed the U.S. men’s gold-winning Olympic ice hockey team to the Capitol for his State of the Union address. The team’s victory over Canada in the final marked the first gold medal for the U.S. in men’s ice hockey since 1980.
During his speech, Trump praised the team’s achievement, stating, “Our country is winning again.” The team received a warm reception in the House of Representatives balcony, with chants of “U.S.A” and a standing ovation.
Trump also announced that team goaltender Connor Hellebuyck would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his outstanding performance in the gold medal game.
Following their victory, Trump invited the men’s team to the State of the Union address and offered to transport them to Washington on a military plane. However, the U.S. women’s team declined the invitation.
Amid celebrations, FBI Director Kash Patel faced backlash for his participation in post-game locker room festivities in Milan. Democrats criticized Patel’s actions as wasteful use of taxpayer dollars.
Despite the controversy, Patel defended his actions on social media, emphasizing his love for America and pride in celebrating with the Olympic gold medal-winning team.
As tensions simmered, Trump assured that the women’s team would also be invited to the White House in the near future, although the team has not confirmed this plan.
