A woman in New Orleans is currently under investigation for living with the mummified remains of her 600-pound son for a period of nine months. The woman, identified as Barbara Hainsworth, is described as a mentally disabled elderly woman by Nola.com. She was found living in a Lakeview home that was in a state of extreme disarray, filled with garbage, chickens, roosters, and rats.

The discovery of the son’s remains was made on May 15th by code enforcement investigators after receiving multiple complaints from neighbors about the condition of the home. Hainsworth, a former doctor whose medical license was revoked ten years ago, informed the police that the body found was that of her son who had passed away nine months earlier.

According to a report by WDSU, when questioned about the body, Hainsworth stated, “That’s my son. He died about nine months ago.” She mentioned that her son had been dealing with various medical conditions.

The City of New Orleans released a statement regarding the state of the property, mentioning the extreme hoarding conditions, mounds of trash, and the mummified body found. The property has been declared a public nuisance, and the owner was fined $6,125 for violations.
