The Kansas City Chiefs made a potentially game-changing pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting running back Brashard Smith out of SMU with the 228th overall pick. Despite being a late-round selection, Smith has caught the attention of NFL analyst Louis Riddick, who sees him as a star in the making and compared him to the likes of Alvin Kamara.

Riddick’s bold prediction stems from Smith’s impressive college career at SMU, where he rushed for 1,332 yards on 235 carries and scored 14 touchdowns in his first year as a starter. This success followed a stint at Miami where Smith saw limited playing time before transferring.

Smith himself believes he is a perfect fit for the Chiefs’ high-powered offense. With his dynamic speed and pass-catching abilities, he feels he can contribute immediately. Having played as a wide receiver for three years before transitioning to running back, Smith’s versatility could be a valuable asset to the team.

In a recent interview, Smith expressed his confidence in his ability to make an impact, stating, “Not a lot of running backs have receiver skills and running back skills. So I feel like just coming in I could contribute for sure with my skill set. I feel like my skill set fits perfectly with the offense. They’re already dynamic, and I feel like I’m a dynamic player.”

Smith will have to compete with other talented running backs on the Chiefs’ roster, including Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, Elijah Mitchell, and Keaontay Ingram. However, his unique skill set and versatility could help him secure a spot on the final 53-man roster.

Overall, the addition of Brashard Smith has generated excitement among Chiefs fans and analysts alike. If he can live up to the comparisons to Alvin Kamara and make an impact on the field, Kansas City may have found a hidden gem in the late rounds of the draft. Only time will tell if Smith can fulfill his potential and become a key player for the Chiefs in the future.
