The United States of America emerged victorious in the Summer of Hockey tournament held in Dunedin this afternoon, defeating the Black Sticks 2-1 in a thrilling final at the McMillan Centre.
The match was closely contested, with Elizabeth Yeagar assisting Abigail Tamer for the United States to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. However, Black Stick Hannah Cotter managed to equalize the score early in the third quarter. The United States regained the lead with a goal from Sophia Gladieux late in the quarter, ultimately securing their unbeaten run in the tournament.
Despite a valiant effort, the Black Sticks saw a late goal disallowed, sealing the victory for the United States. In the bronze medal match, New Zealand A emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Japan in the curtain-raiser.
