U.S women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes is making strides in developing the USWNT player pool by announcing a 20-player U-23 roster for an upcoming training camp and matches in Germany. The two-game series will take place in two stadiums outside of Stuttgart, Germany, on May 30 and June 2. This marks the first set of matches for Hayes’ revamped U-23 program in 2025.

Hayes expressed her excitement about the opportunity for the U-23 player pool to compete against top-tier opponents in Europe, providing them with valuable experiences necessary for their growth. She emphasized the importance of exposing the players to different challenges and experiences to enhance their development. Hayes also highlighted her intention to rotate players between the U-23 team and the WNT to ensure they face a diverse range of high-level opponents while maintaining consistent coaching methodologies.

The U-23 roster will be under the guidance of a dedicated coaching staff, led by University of New Mexico head coach Heather Dyche. Joining Dyche are Orlando Pride assistant coach Yolanda Thomas, former USWNT player Stephanie Cox, and U.S. Youth National Team coach Louis Hunt.

The roster includes 15 players under the age of 23, with an additional five “over-age” players allowed per U23 standards in Europe. The squad comprises 16 NWSL players and three European club professionals, with University of North Carolina midfielder Evelyn Shores being the sole active college player selected.

Notable players on the roster who have made an impact in the NWSL this season include Jordyn Bugg and Maddie Dahlien (Seattle Reign FC), Lilly Reale and Sarah Schupansky (Gotham FC), Kennedy Wesley (San Diego Wave), Riley Jackson (North Carolina Courage), Caiya Hanks (Portland Thorns FC), Jameese Joseph (Chicago Stars FC), Makenna Morris (Washington Spirit), and Riley Tiernan (Angel City FC).

The U.S. U-23 WNT roster is as follows:

– Goalkeepers: Angelina Anderson (Angel City FC; Danville, Calif.), Jordan Silkowitz (Bay FC; Fairfax, Va.)
– Defenders: Jordyn Bugg, Lauren Flynn, Emily Mason, Lilly Reale, Evelyn Shores, Kennedy Wesley
– Midfielders: Korbin Albert, Abi Brighton, Riley Jackson, Samantha Meza, Sarah Schupansky, Jaedyn Shaw
– Forwards: Maddie Dahlien, Mia Fishel, Caiya Hanks, Jameese Joseph, Makenna Morris, Riley Tiernan
