Valerie Bertinelli recently shared intimate details about the cosmetic procedures she underwent to enhance her appearance in her new book, “Getting Naked: The Quiet Work of Becoming Perfectly Imperfect.” The actress, now 65 years old, reflected on her experiences with Botox and breast augmentation.

In 2019, Bertinelli decided to try Botox for the first time, but quickly realized it wasn’t for her. She described how the treatment altered the shape of her eyebrows and face, causing her to feel like she didn’t recognize herself in the mirror. Despite this, she acknowledged that some people benefit from such procedures and feel more confident as a result.

The actress also opened up about her decision to undergo breast augmentation, revealing that she had a “complicated relationship” with her breasts due to years of being mocked for their size. After getting breast implants, Bertinelli never felt comfortable displaying them, describing the implants as “ostrich eggs, hard and crusted over.” She detailed a frightening experience where her right breast became infected, requiring six months to heal and grow back missing tissue. Subsequent surgeries were needed to address the complications and restore the shape of her breasts.

Bertinelli expressed her desire for her breasts to eventually be symmetrical and for her appearance to reflect her true self. She emphasized that while she is not against plastic surgery or cosmetic enhancements, her journey has taught her the importance of accepting and appreciating her body as it is.

The actress’s candid revelations in her book shed light on the pressures individuals face to conform to societal beauty standards and the physical and emotional toll that cosmetic procedures can have. Through her story, Bertinelli encourages self-acceptance and self-love, emphasizing the importance of feeling comfortable and confident in one’s own skin.
