Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen faced a setback during the club’s presidential elections when he was unable to cast his vote due to a technicality. The German, who was seen at the polling booth, had to return empty-handed as he had not updated his club membership, which made him ineligible to participate in the voting process.

Reports from ESPN and SPORT revealed that Ter Stegen was excluded from voting because he had not been present during the club’s socios census, which was a prerequisite for casting a vote in the elections. Despite his inability to vote, the outcome of the elections remained unaffected, as Joan Laporta emerged victorious with a significant 68.18% of the vote, solidifying his position as the club’s president once again.

Following his re-election, Laporta expressed his gratitude and optimism for the future, stating, “This is a resounding result and it gives us great strength. It makes us unstoppable. No one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives.” He also commended the members for their participation in the democratic process and praised the organization of the election day.

Meanwhile, Ter Stegen’s future with the German national team is uncertain, as national team coach Julian Nagelsmann raised concerns about the goalkeeper’s availability for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Nagelsmann acknowledged that Ter Stegen was set to play a significant role in the squad this summer but his recent injury has jeopardized his chances. With Manuel Neuer also sidelined, there is a possibility for Ter Stegen to make a comeback if he can recover quickly and regain his fitness.

Currently on loan at Girona, Ter Stegen has had limited playing time since his move in January, with injuries hampering his progress. Despite the setbacks, the talented goalkeeper is determined to overcome challenges and make a strong comeback for both Barcelona and the German national team. As he continues to work on his fitness and rehabilitation, all eyes will be on Ter Stegen’s recovery and potential return to top form.
