It’s hardly surprising that Ghazala Hashmi, who has a track record of disparaging Virginians, recently found herself in the spotlight for her unconventional campaign tactics.
While many would expect respect for American symbols, her actions appear to resonate with her political base that seems unfazed by flag controversies.
Townhall reports:
Erratic Democrat Candidate Under Fire for Defiling National Symbols on Campaign Trail
Despite suffering a notable setback in the 2024 elections, Democrats seem resistant to reform. Case in point: Ghazala Hashmi is making headlines for her flagrant political theatrics while campaigning for the lieutenant governorship of Virginia.
In a recent appearance, she made her case beside an upside-down American flag and a crude mock tombstone inscribed with “RIP Constitution.”
“We have to fight. We are not yielding this democracy to the clutches of tyranny,” she declared fervently. “We will not relinquish the rights we hold dear to protect all citizens. Our commitment to civil disobedience will resonate throughout Virginia and beyond,” she affirmed.
This bold stunt raises eyebrows:
AS THE RACE IN VIRGINIA HEATS UP, Democrats are reportedly in a frenzy, launching an “October Surprise” aimed at tarnishing John Reid, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor.
Unsurprisingly, the accusations are met with skepticism.

Hashmi’s polarizing approach has even prompted some Virginia Democrats to openly endorse her Republican competitor, John Reid.
The Daily Signal reports:
Democrats Defect to Support Republican John Reid
A newly formed coalition of former Democratic officials, business leaders, and community advocates is backing John Reid’s campaign for lieutenant governor.
On social media, the “Democrats for John Reid” group made waves this week. Former Democratic Senator Joe Morrissey, a key figure in the coalition, stated, “This is beyond party; it’s about the future of Virginia.”
In response, Hashmi took to social media to proclaim her pride in not receiving Morrissey’s endorsement, a curious badge of honor for any candidate.
Morrissey, who shared a Senate term with Hashmi, criticized her allegiance to established interests: “Ghazala Hashmi has consistently aligned with Richmond insiders. Whereas, John Reid advocates for working families, first responders, and taxpayers.”
The other side of this equation is Abigail Spanberger, whose electoral struggle against Winsome Sears—Virginia’s current Republican Lieutenant Governor—has taken a dramatic turn, as recent polling suggests an increasingly tight race.
