Gunther, also known as the Ring General, has been making waves in WWE since his debut in NXT UK back in 2019. Despite not being seen on television since his loss to CM Punk at SummerSlam 2025, fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the ring.
Throughout his WWE career, Gunther has been accompanied by members of Imperium, most notably Ludwig Kaiser. However, following Giovanni Vinci’s release, Gunther and Kaiser were also split up on screen. WWE legend Teddy Long recently expressed his interest in managing Gunther, stating that there is something about the wrestler that draws him in. Long even suggested the idea of turning heel alongside Gunther, a move that fans would never expect from the former SmackDown General Manager.
Speaking on an episode of The Wrestling Time Machine on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Long mentioned, “I think it would probably be Gunther. There’s something about Gunther that he just draws me, you know. And with what’s happening in the world today, you know, I could, you know, turn heel there. People would never think that I would do that. You know what I mean? And go with Gunther, and kind of go with the other side. You know what I mean? Golly, I think that would be tremendous heat.”
Despite not being available for large parts of 2025, Gunther was named the best wrestler of the year by Teddy Long. He had a rollercoaster year, losing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41 only to reclaim it from Jey Uso. Gunther’s journey culminated in a loss to CM Punk, where he dropped the belt in his last televised appearance.
As fans eagerly await Gunther’s return to the ring, it remains to be seen how his career will unfold with or without the guidance of Teddy Long. The wrestling world is buzzing with anticipation for the Ring General’s next move, and only time will tell what the future holds for this dominant force in WWE.
