The ongoing dispute between Disney and Google shows no signs of slowing down, as the blackout of ESPN, ABC, and other Disney networks on YouTube TV enters its fourth day. The two media giants are at odds over fees, with both sides refusing to back down.

In a recent development, Disney requested that Google make ABC available to YouTube TV customers on Election Night, November 3rd, in order to provide them with coverage of the important event. However, Google rejected the request, instead suggesting that Disney allow ABC and ESPN to return to YouTube TV while negotiations continue, as these are the channels that customers desire.

Google emphasized the importance of providing customers with the content they want, pointing out that there are numerous other options for election news coverage available on YouTube TV and the main YouTube platform. The company also noted that the majority of YouTube TV subscribers did not tune in to ABC on past election days.

Furthermore, Google criticized Disney for resorting to tactics used in previous disputes, highlighting the accessibility of ABC News content on YouTube and local ABC stations’ YouTube pages. The tech giant proposed a solution that would see ABC and ESPN channels restored immediately while negotiations continue, stressing the importance of prioritizing customer preferences.

Disney, on the other hand, stated that it has submitted a proposal for a YouTube TV deal renewal to Google and is awaiting a response. The ball is now in Google’s court as both companies strive to reach a resolution that benefits their mutual customers.

The back-and-forth between Disney and Google underscores the challenges of negotiating content distribution deals in the ever-evolving media landscape. As the blackout of Disney networks on YouTube TV continues, subscribers are left in limbo, eagerly awaiting a resolution to the ongoing dispute. Let’s hope that a compromise can be reached soon to bring back the popular ABC and ESPN channels to YouTube TV customers.
