As we observe National Native American Heritage Month, we take a moment to reflect on the invaluable contributions of Native Americans to the fabric of our nation.

Since the inception of our Republic, the foundational principles of liberty, equality, and the rule of law have stood the test of time, illuminating our path for over two and a half centuries. Yet, America is not merely a collection of lofty ideals; it is a tangible entity—a nation defined by its borders, legal frameworks, and institutions. We, as citizens, share a common language, history, and culture, aspiring towards a promising future together. As we gear up to commemorate 250 years of American independence, we pay tribute to the generations of Native Americans whose sacrifices and contributions have fortified the strength of our country.

In my role as President, I remain unwavering in my commitment to enhance the prosperity and well-being of all Native Americans. Shortly after resuming office, I fulfilled a long-standing promise to secure full federal recognition for the esteemed Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina—a recognition that should have been granted long ago. Furthermore, we are broadening educational choices by enabling students eligible for Bureau of Indian Education Schools to utilize their federal funding for the educational pathway that best aligns with their needs, whether that be private, faith-based, or public charter institutions.

Native Americans have been pivotal in shaping the United States into the remarkable nation it is today. Their vibrant culture, traditions, and accomplishments continue to enrich our society and reinforce the enduring promise of America.
