Two juveniles have been arrested and charged with the murder of a homeless man in the Loop on Sunday morning, according to a press release by the Chicago Police Department issued late Monday night.
The suspects, a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, are facing first-degree murder charges, while another 14-year-old boy is charged with armed robbery. The 16-year-old is also facing a charge of felony mob action.
Following an investigation, Chicago police detained six individuals, believed to be part of the same family, in connection with the fatal stabbing outside Exchequer Pub at 226 South Wabash. The victim was discovered by a passerby on the sidewalk at around 7:21 a.m. and emergency services were immediately contacted.
Although the victim’s identity remains unknown as of Monday evening, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined that the cause of death was a stab wound to the back.
Further details regarding the incident are expected to be disclosed during a detention hearing scheduled for the 16-year-old suspect on Tuesday.
In addition to the juveniles, a 23-year-old man named Samuel Alvarado Moreno has been charged with felony criminal damage to government property. The circumstances surrounding this charge have not been publicly disclosed by the police.
