Teantun Davis (Chicago Police Department)

Chicago Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Shooting Incident in Old Town

A Chicago man, Teantun Davis, has been handed a 20-year sentence for his involvement in a shooting incident in Old Town. Davis, aged 25, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery by firearm in front of Judge Aleksandra Gillespie. As part of the sentence, he must serve at least 85% of the term, with a potential release date in July 2037.

The incident, which occurred on July 16, 2020, saw Davis firing more than a dozen shots down the 1400 block of North Hudson. Among the victims were a 5-month-old boy in a stroller, who was grazed by a bullet near his eye, and two men, aged 19 and 25, who sustained gunshot wounds to their limbs.

Despite Davis attempting to conceal his identity with a tightly-cinched hoodie, the shooting was captured on video. Law enforcement officers were able to identify the description and license plate of the getaway vehicle quickly.

Following a pursuit, Chicago police officers intercepted the vehicle as it entered Lake Shore Drive at North Avenue. A collision occurred between the vehicle and a police squad car near Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive, after which the vehicle crashed in the 3900 block of South Princeton. Davis was apprehended at the scene, while the driver of the getaway car managed to escape. Another individual present at the scene was not charged with any wrongdoing.

During the attempt to flee, Davis discarded a stolen firearm, which was later linked through forensic testing to shell casings recovered at the crime scene. In a plea deal, prosecutors dropped 20 additional charges against Davis, including 15 counts of attempted murder.
