Disney fans, get ready for a treat! “Disneyland Handcrafted,” a captivating new feature documentary produced and directed by Leslie Iwerks, is set to premiere on Jan. 22 on Disney+ and Disney YouTube. This documentary is a treasure trove of rare archival footage and original audio recordings that provide viewers with an exclusive look into the magic of Walt Disney’s dream and the incredible artistry and determination that went into creating The Happiest Place on Earth.

Disneyland has been a beloved destination for over 70 years, but its iconic status didn’t happen overnight. “Disneyland Handcrafted” delves into the story of how the park evolved into the iconic spot it is today, leading up to its grand opening on July 17, 1955. Through newly discovered materials from the Walt Disney Archives, Iwerks and her team have unearthed forgotten 16mm film reels and audio recordings that offer a glimpse into the tumultuous year preceding the park’s creation, capturing the legacy and nostalgia that surrounded the birth of the Disneyland Resort.

The documentary also features firsthand accounts from the artists, craftsmen, and Imagineers who were instrumental in the park’s creation, providing a behind-the-scenes perspective on the challenges and triumphs they faced along the way.

Leslie Iwerks has a special connection to Disney, being the daughter of former Disney executive Don Iwerks and the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, the legendary animator and co-creator of Mickey Mouse. Her previous projects include acclaimed documentaries like “The Imagineering Story,” “The Pixar Story,” and “League of Legends: Origins.”

In other news, the ABC News year-end special “What You Need to Know: 2025” has made its debut exclusively on Disney+. Hosted by correspondents James Longman and Rachel Scott, the special episode highlights the most memorable stories that shaped the year, offering viewers a concise and informative recap of the major events across global reporting, politics, pop culture, and viral videos.

Additionally, Turner Classic Movies will pay tribute to filmmaker Rob Reiner with a special programming event on Jan. 28, showcasing some of his most beloved films like “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “Stand By Me,” and “This Is Spinal Tap.”

And for documentary enthusiasts, “Roads of Fire” is set to be released on TVOD platforms like Amazon, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home on Jan. 6. Directed by Nathaniel Lezra, this award-winning film explores the harrowing journeys of individuals and groups involved in human smuggling and migration.

On the partnership front, the Fox-owned Los Angeles duopoly KTTV Fox 11 and KCOP Fox 11+ have been named the official media partner of the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission. As part of this partnership, the stations will provide coverage of major events like the FIFA World Cup 26 and Super Bowl LXI, offering Angelenos exclusive access and behind-the-scenes content.

With a mix of captivating documentaries, special programming, and exciting partnerships, the entertainment landscape is buzzing with new and engaging content for audiences to enjoy. Disney fans and film enthusiasts alike have plenty to look forward to in the coming months, with a diverse range of offerings that cater to every taste and interest.
