A recent shooting incident in the Loop neighborhood of Chicago left a bicyclist injured after being shot by another individual on Saturday evening. According to Chicago police, the altercation took place near the BP gas station located at Wabash and Roosevelt around 6:22 p.m.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, was riding his bike when he became involved in an argument with another bicyclist. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which the second bicyclist pulled out a gun and fired a single shot at the victim, hitting him in the lower back. Following the shooting, the gunman fled the scene, riding east on Roosevelt on a blue bike. The victim was reported to be in fair condition following the incident.

Described by an officer at the scene as a Black male wearing all black clothing and a face mask covering his entire head, the shooter remains at large. This incident marks the 12th shooting in the Loop neighborhood this year, with two of the previous incidents being deemed as self-defense. In comparison, there were 14 shootings at this point last year and 34 at this point in 2022.
