Concealed Carry Holder Shoots Armed Robber on Northwest Side
A licensed concealed carry holder thwarted an armed robbery attempt in the early hours of Tuesday morning on the Northwest Side, as reported by Chicago police. The incident took place in the 5200 block of West Montana Street at around 2:40 a.m.
According to police reports, a 39-year-old man was getting out of his vehicle when two individuals approached him on foot. One of the suspects brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s belongings.
However, the victim, who possessed a valid concealed carry permit, managed to draw his own weapon and fired shots at the assailants. One of the suspects sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the legs as a result of the altercation.
Both suspects fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Nevertheless, a trail of blood left by the injured individual led officers to a residence in the 2400 block of North Lockwood Avenue, where they established a crime scene perimeter.
Subsequently, a 23-year-old man emerged from the residence and was promptly taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center by Chicago Fire Department paramedics for treatment. He was reported to be in good condition.
CPD officers apprehended a second suspect at the scene, although formal charges have yet to be announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
