Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly purchased a $27 million mansion in California, just 14 months after rumors circulated that she had fled to the UK due to Donald Trump’s presidency.
According to an insider speaking to People, DeGeneres will be splitting her time between Montecito, California, and the United Kingdom, despite not permanently moving back to the US.
DeGeneres had previously bought a $14 million farmhouse in Cotswolds, England, shortly after Trump’s return to office. She later moved to a different glass-walled mansion in the same town to accommodate her wife Portia de Rossi’s horses.
A real estate source shared with People that DeGeneres and de Rossi have been missing the California weather and horse scene since their move to the UK. DeGeneres was recently seen shopping for a home in Montecito, California.
Despite rumors of her absence in the Cotswolds area, DeGeneres confirmed in July 2025 that her decision to move to the UK was influenced by Trump’s presidency. She mentioned waking up to the news of his election and deciding to stay in the UK.

Known for her interest in real estate, DeGeneres has been trying to sell her original UK farmhouse for $30 million without success. Recent reports suggest that the house is close to selling after a price reduction.
Remaining politically active, DeGeneres recently expressed her sorrow over the situation in Minneapolis and the country as a whole, emphasizing her connection to the city where she shot her last stand-up special.
