Three Chicago men are facing charges for robbing and assaulting a 56-year-old man who had fallen asleep on a Red Line train on his way to work in October. The incident occurred near the Garfield station and left the victim with a fractured eye socket.

Artez Haywood, 20, Davarius Jordan, 19, and Raphael Foreman, 18, have been accused of robbery and aggravated battery in connection with the attack. Prosecutors stated that the altercation began around 3:46 a.m. when Haywood took items from the victim’s pockets while he was asleep on the northbound train. When the victim woke up and tried to retrieve his belongings, Haywood allegedly struck him in the head. Jordan and Foreman then joined in, assaulting the victim by punching and kicking him before stealing his wallet and cell phone. The victim sustained a fractured orbital socket as a result of the attack.

Surveillance images of the three suspects were released by the Chicago Police Department on November 3, seeking assistance from the public in identifying them. The victim was able to identify the three men from a photo line-up.

Court records revealed that Haywood was already on pretrial release for possessing a stolen motor vehicle at the time of the alleged robbery. Following the incident, Judge Rivanda Doss Beal ordered Haywood to be detained, while Judge James Murphy III detained Jordan, and Judge Antara Rivera ordered Foreman to be detained pending trial.

This incident sheds light on the importance of public safety and the need for vigilance while using public transportation. It serves as a reminder to remain aware of one’s surroundings and take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
