Fractal Analytics Faces Disappointing IPO Debut

Fractal Analytics, India’s first AI company to go public, experienced a lackluster first day on the stock market. The excitement surrounding the technology clashed with nervous investors still recovering from a recent sell-off in Indian software stocks.

The company’s initial public offering saw it list at ₹876 per share, below its issue price of ₹900. Throughout afternoon trading, the stock continued to decline, eventually closing at ₹873.70, down 7% from its issue price. This resulted in Fractal Analytics having a market capitalization of approximately ₹148.1 billion (around $1.6 billion).

This valuation represents a decrease from Fractal’s previous highs in the private market. In July 2025, the company raised $170 million in a secondary sale, valuing it at $2.4 billion. Fractal first achieved unicorn status in January 2022 after securing $360 million from TPG.

India’s Growing AI Market

The timing of Fractal’s IPO aligns with India’s efforts to establish itself as a prominent market and development center for AI. The country aims to attract investment by leveraging its vast talent pool and increasing interest from global AI companies. Entities like OpenAI and Anthropic are actively engaging with India’s government, businesses, and developers to capitalize on the country’s resources and burgeoning demand for AI solutions.

This week, New Delhi is hosting the AI Impact Summit, showcasing India’s commitment to advancing AI technologies and fostering collaboration among international tech leaders, policymakers, and industry executives.

Challenges and Opportunities

Fractal Analytics faced challenges leading up to its IPO. In response to advice from its bankers, the company adjusted its offering, reducing the IPO size by over 40% to ₹28.34 billion ($312.5 million) from the initial ₹49 billion ($540.3 million).

Established in 2000, Fractal specializes in AI and data analytics software for major enterprises in sectors like finance, retail, and healthcare. Although the company initially focused on traditional data analytics, it shifted towards AI in 2022.

Despite its IPO debut, Fractal reported promising financial growth in its IPO filing. Revenue from operations increased by 26% to ₹27.65 billion (approximately $304.8 million) in the fiscal year ending March 2025. Additionally, the company turned a net profit of ₹2.21 billion ($24.3 million) compared to a loss of ₹547 million ($6 million) the previous year.

Future Plans and Utilization of IPO Funds

Fractal Analytics intends to use the proceeds from its IPO to repay debts at its U.S. subsidiary, invest in research and development, bolster sales and marketing efforts through its Fractal Alpha division, expand its office infrastructure in India, and explore potential acquisitions.
