Matter and Shape, the renowned design fair held during Paris Fashion Week, has returned to the Jardin des Tuileries for its third edition. The fair, which kicked off on Friday and will continue through Monday, March 9, aims to introduce the world of design to a broader audience while the fashion elite are in town.

Unlike traditional trade shows, Matter and Shape offers a unique salon experience that appeals to a diverse range of attendees, including stylists, hoteliers, shop owners, tastemakers, and creative directors, in addition to the usual crowd of editors, curators, artists, and gallerists. Notable figures such as Mel Ottenberg and Wolfgang Tillmans have been spotted exploring the fair’s offerings, which include textiles, tableware, lighting, ceramics, and furniture from a mix of independent designers, heritage brands, and family-run companies.

The crossover between fashion and design is not a new phenomenon, according to Dan Thawley, the creative director behind Matter and Shape. He believes that great fashion designers have always been curators in their own right, creating inspiring spaces that reflect their unique aesthetic. With the fashion world increasingly turning its attention to interiors and home decor, the synergy between fashion, art, and design has become more evident than ever.

Now in its third year, Matter and Shape has grown significantly, expanding its exhibitor list from 30 to over 70 participants. The theme for 2026, “Scale,” draws inspiration from architectural monographs like Rem Koolhaas and Bruce Mau’s S, M, L, XL. Visitors can expect to find a diverse array of offerings, from sculptural jewelry and recycled leather cushions to fragrances and geometric furniture pieces.

In addition to the exhibitors, Matter and Shape also features spaces for relaxation and dining, including a reading room in partnership with Villa Hegra, a cafĂ© by Dreamin’ Man in collaboration with Zara Home, and a pop-up restaurant by BalbostĂ©. Thawley describes the fair as a curated journey through the pages of a magazine, showcasing the best in design and lifestyle.

In a world where everything is seemingly accessible online, Thawley emphasizes the importance of discovering hidden gems and celebrating the beauty of design in all its forms. Matter and Shape serves as a platform for showcasing the artistry and creativity of designers across various disciplines, highlighting the ways in which design influences our daily lives.
