Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer, who has been openly critical of former news anchor Kari Lake, has recently reinstated his X/Twitter page amidst controversy surrounding a defamation lawsuit against Lake. Richer, the top election official in Maricopa County, has been accused of destroying evidence in his lawsuit against Lake, which has raised concerns about his integrity in overseeing the vote-counting process in the county.

Lake’s husband, a defendant in the lawsuit, filed a Motion to Dismiss citing Richer’s destruction of evidence, failure to disclose a taxpayer-funded “data mining operation,” and violation of a court order. This data mining operation was used by Richer’s office to compile information about himself from news stories and social media, potentially for campaign purposes and as evidence in the lawsuit.

Following the controversy, Richer made the decision to suspend his X page, where he typically provided updates on elections and vote counting in Maricopa County. This move sparked outrage online, as it occurred during the vote-counting process with thousands of ballots still remaining to be processed and counted in the county.

In a deposition transcript obtained by , it was revealed that Richer had considered running for Senate to “make life hell for Kari Lake” and identified himself as “anti-MAGA” in private text messages. This information has raised further questions about Richer’s impartiality in his role as Maricopa County Recorder, especially as he oversees the vote-counting process in Lake’s Senate race.

Despite allegations of voter fraud and manipulation, Kari Lake has been unable to secure victory in the Arizona Senate race, with Republicans winning down the ballot. Richer, who was reportedly polling his popularity for a potential Senate run, ultimately decided against it after realizing he could not defeat Lake in a primary race.

It is evident that Richer’s decision to suspend his X page was an attempt to silence critics and prevent his controversial comments about Lake from being made public. However, his actions have only raised more suspicions about his motives and integrity in overseeing the election process in Maricopa County.

As the legal battle between Kari Lake and Stephen Richer continues, will provide updates on Lake’s fight against the defamation lawsuit and her next steps in response to the contested election results.
