Bimi Boo Academy is an educational app within the Bimi Boo family, crafted to aid young children in developing essential skills through engaging, play-based activities. Tailored for classroom settings, the Academy offers interactive exercises in early literacy, math, and daily skills. It is particularly effective for pre‑K and kindergarten students and can also support early 1st graders as they advance in phonics, letter formation, and basic math skills.

Unlike other Bimi Boo apps that cater to young learners, the Bimi Boo Academy combines this content into a cohesive, teacher-friendly platform. Nicole Homerin, an early childhood special education teacher, incorporated the app into her curriculum and found it adaptable to the varied learning needs of her students. Here’s her perspective on using Bimi Boo Academy in her classroom.

According to Homerin, the Bimi Boo app is best suited for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. Pre-K learners might need extra help with following directions and grasping complex math topics. The app’s math and reading sections are also beneficial for 1st graders, as they become more adept at solving addition problems and forming words from letters.

Does this product align with any specific standards or curriculum guidelines that you know of?

The app aligns with the California Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations and the Massachusetts Guidelines for Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Experiences.

Homerin utilized the app during center time, integrating it with multisensory learning activities across various subjects. In literacy centers, students explored letters in ASL, Braille, and English, using the app’s letter formation pages. She also plans to incorporate the app’s stories into lessons on topics like mealtime, PE sports, and music.

How did your students react to the Bimi Boo Academy app?

The students eagerly engaged with the app, expressing enjoyment and asking for more through sign language. In a classroom where many students are pre-verbal or non-speaking, gestures and facial expressions revealed their enthusiasm and continued interest in the app throughout lessons.
