The Walt Disney Company is facing significant challenges, as highlighted by its recent announcement of a third wave of layoffs within the past few years, with 2026 still underway.

According to a statement to The Wrap, a Disney representative confirmed the company is cutting jobs across several major departments.

This latest series of layoffs impacts corporate positions, as well as roles at ESPN and National Geographic, alongside various roles in Disney’s film and television sectors.

Notably, The Wrap reported that Pixar Studios, known for producing successful films like “Toy Story” and “Up,” is among the divisions most affected.

Pixar has let go of 116 employees, despite the recent commercial and critical success of “Toy Story 5.”

“Toy Story 5” tackled the issue of excessive screen time while steering clear of certain controversial themes that have affected other Disney releases.

The Disney spokesperson explained to The Wrap, “These changes are part of our continual evaluation of how we manage resources and reinvest across the company as our industry continues to evolve.”

The New York Post described these layoffs as a “fresh bloodbath,” noting it has become a frequent occurrence at Disney. Earlier in April, Disney enacted significant job cuts. Prior to that, major layoffs occurred in 2024 and 2023, which included some global workforce reductions.

The Wrap highlighted that “Toy Story 5” has already grossed $957 million worldwide, nearing the billion-dollar mark. Disney maintains that these layoffs are driven more by shifts in the media industry than by box office failures.

Despite recent layoffs, Pixar remains busy with upcoming projects. They are set to release an original film, “Gatto,” and a sequel to their popular superhero series, “Incredibles 3.”
