Donald Trump was chosen by voters in swing states to fulfill a specific mandate in the closely contested 2024 election. His election was not about mass deportations or allowing tech moguls like Elon Musk to run amok with government authority; it was fundamentally about tackling inflation and reducing living costs.

Trump asserted that his mere election would lead to a decline in inflation and costs. This promise resonated particularly with low-information voters and those who had become disenchanted with the electoral process, seeking quick fixes for their frustrations over rising prices and inflation.

Since the election, both Trump and his party have attempted to frame his victory as a mandate for a series of unpopular policies. However, the reality remains: Trump was elected to achieve one primary objective. Had he succeeded in this endeavor, even amid the controversies and allegations swirling around his administration, he might have been regarded as a successful president by the very voters who propelled him back into office.

Regrettably, due to what many deem his unprecedented incompetence, Trump has veered off course, leading to a crisis not only for the Republican Party but for the nation as a whole.

By October 2024, President Joe Biden had successfully reduced inflation to its lowest levels since 2021. Still, grocery prices remained high, and overall costs had surged by 21% since January. Voter dissatisfaction was palpable, and the call for change grew louder.

Those who cast their ballots for Trump are indeed experiencing change, but it is hardly the transformational shift they anticipated.
