Michigan Wolverines College Football Scandal: Analyst Believes Team Likely Guilty

College football insider J.D. Pickell of On3 has raised suspicions about the Michigan Wolverines’ involvement in a scandal after the school imposed a two-game suspension on Sherrone Moore, one of their staff members.

The suspension came in the wake of an advanced scouting scandal involving Connor Stalions, for which Michigan claimed innocence. However, Pickell argues that the self-imposed suspension indicates potential guilt on Michigan’s part.

“I think Michigan is probably guilty. If you are looking at this thing without any bias, you can see what happened and say they probably cheated. There is so much around this situation that points to Michigan not being above board. They probably broke the rule, so this move is trying to lighten the eventual consequence from the NCAA,” Pickell stated.

During the suspension period, Moore will be prohibited from any team-related duties and face additional penalties related to recruiting and coaching responsibilities during Weeks 3 and 4.

Despite the self-imposed suspension, the NCAA retains the authority to investigate and potentially penalize Moore and Michigan once the inquiry concludes. Michigan’s decision to self-suspend Moore is seen as an attempt to mitigate any future repercussions.

Analyst Chris Balas of On3 speculates on the potential punishment Moore may face, suggesting that the NCAA could be considering a full-year suspension.

“What we’ve been saying is basically what we’ve been saying for the last several months, that the penalty that the NCAA wants is a Sherrone Moore suspension at some point. And from what we’ve heard from several sources, extremely close to it, that it was initially a lot more. This has not been accepted by the NCAA yet as the final punishment or anything like that. But we’d heard initially maybe he gets a year, then it was maybe six games. So Michigan I think is looking right now at it as this is what we’re willing to accept,” Balas explained.

As of now, Moore will miss Michigan’s upcoming games against Central Michigan and Nebraska in Weeks 3 and 4. Michigan’s 2025 college football season will kick off on August 30 against New Mexico, with key matchups against Wisconsin, USC, Ohio State, Washington, and Michigan State lined up.

The situation remains fluid as the NCAA continues its investigation, leaving the Wolverines and Moore awaiting a final decision on potential sanctions.
