“We have to get that balance right,” Hayes continued. “We have to get that balance right for ’27, for ’28, and for the future of the program. So, we have to get the balance right and we have to get the balance right quickly.”

Hayes emphasized the importance of building depth in all positions as the team looks to compete on the world stage. In addition to the goalkeeper position, the coaching staff is looking to evaluate and develop players across all areas of the field. The upcoming games against China and Jamaica will provide an opportunity for new faces to showcase their skills and earn valuable experience at the international level.

With a mix of experienced veterans and promising young talents, the USWNT roster reflects Hayes’ commitment to fostering a competitive and dynamic squad. The coaching staff is focused on identifying players who can contribute to the team’s success in major tournaments while also investing in the long-term growth and development of the program.

As the team prepares for upcoming challenges, including the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympics, Hayes is determined to create a cohesive and resilient team that can compete at the highest level. The road ahead will be filled with challenges and opportunities, but with Hayes at the helm, the USWNT is poised to continue its legacy of excellence in women’s soccer.

In her quest to develop top goalkeepers for the future, coach Hayes is determined to ensure that the pathways for young players are seamless and effective. With a focus on the ’27 to ’31 timeframe, Hayes is looking to identify and nurture talent early on to prepare them for the international stage.

As part of her strategy, Hayes plans to use the upcoming international window to give valuable experience to her U-23 team. By scheduling games in Germany, she aims to provide opportunities for players like Jaedyn Shaw, Korbin Albert, and Mia Fishel. Fishel, in particular, is on a comeback from an ACL injury and Hayes believes that playing in Germany will be beneficial for her development.

Hayes’ approach also involves experimenting with different players due to the absence of some key members of the 2024 Olympics gold-medal winning team. Trinity Rodman, for instance, has been consulting with a doctor in London to address a back issue. Hayes is optimistic about Rodman’s progress but understands the importance of taking the necessary steps for her long-term well-being.

Overall, Hayes’ focus on developing young talent and providing valuable experiences for her players underscores her commitment to building a strong foundation for the future of the team. By giving players the right opportunities and support, she hopes to see them thrive and compete at the highest level by 2027.
